Day 11: The Innocents
Co-written by the legendary Truman Capote and starring the majestic Deborah Kerr, this is my favorite movie of the month so far, and now one of my favorite Halloween movies ever.
This is a grand, elegant, gorgeous, and unsettling film about a young governess who begins to look after two wealthy children in their illustrious mansion, but all is not as it seems.
Every element of the visuals (the cinematography, lighting, sets, and costumes) is immaculate. The acting is fantastic, particularly from the two lead children, who are adept at being simultaneously innocent and suspicious. The music, much like everything else in the film, is both beautiful and terrifying.
All I can do about this movie is gush, so I'll stop repeating myself and just recommend the damn thing already.
