Jacob's 31 Day Halloween Movie Challenge - Day 9
Day 9: Night of the Living Dead
I had only seen this once before, when I was somewhere between 4th and 6th grade, and essentially only remembered the beginning and the end. I had forgotten key elements, such as the family's bitten daughter and the local news station's explanation for the zombie outbreak.
With this being one of the first major hits for independent film, there's a lot about this movie that I immensely respect. From having a black man as the lead protagonist during the civil rights era, to having the majority of the film be about our group of survivors arguing amongst each other with death literally at their door. But for me, the tragic ending is the strongest element of the movie, as it's what truly elevates it to something beyond a film about zombies.
I certainly enjoy everything else about it, particularly the cold atmosphere and the violence that is still somewhat shocking today, but it's the ending that makes it a true classic.
There's not much else I can say about this movie that hasn't already been said, but of course if you still haven't seen this one, it's definitely worth checking out.
