Day 8: Dead Alive
Originally titled Braindead, this is Peter Jackson's third film, and his final gore film before going on to classier projects such as Heavenly Creatures and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
This movie is completely insane and I loved every second of it.
Considered the bloodiest movie ever made, with 300 liters of fake blood being used in the final scene alone, these are some of the most visually creative gore gags I've ever seen. I'm talking stuff Itchy and Scratchy and Evil Dead couldn't come up with. Nothing will ever top the climax house party scene in this movie in terms of violence, creativity, hilarity, and, surprisingly enough, genuine investment.
Even though most of the actual plot is comprised of stock characters and cliches, I still found myself rooting for the good guys to survive. Everything leading up to the climax is excellent build-up, with never a dull moment to spare and plenty of tongue-in-cheek quotables.
It's honestly hard for me to talk more about this movie because I just had a wonderful time laughing and screaming "What?!" at what I was seeing.
Go see it if movie violence doesn't bother you, otherwise absolutely do not see it!
